Te Niwha engages Eden to solve some brand challenges and establish new website » Eden Design

Te Niwha

Project Description

Te Niwha has been established to ensure that Aotearoa, New Zealand, has world-class research capability to support our preparedness for current and future infectious disease challenges. The information is for the New Zealand public, Government health organisations, and any other health body looking to be informed and make decisions in this infectious disease space.

Objective:

To establish a solid brand foundation to promote and accelerate the access of infectious disease research in a professional and accessible manner.

Eden Design was commissioned by Te Niwha to roll out their newly designed tohu. This resulted in a journey of establishing key communication and digital tools including:

  • Brand development supporting their newly created tohu
  • Communication design
  • Website design and development for a landing page, and then a full site
  • 120-page report and executive summary “Likely future pandemic agents and scenarios"

Solution:

To begin our relationship, Eden Design was trusted to breath life into Te Niwha's Kawenata (Charter) by illuminating and paying communicative significance to their Vision and Mission, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and their Values and Principles. This has become an enduring document for Te Niwha.

Communications: Eden Design was then requested to provide a set of communications. However, usability problems and missing brand elements were noticed with the existing brand. With sensitivity Eden provided brand recommendations which were readily accepted and implemented promptly.

Website design and development: Many great ideas emerged as a result of the creative and developmental process. Thanks to Eden’s clear scope and brief defined at the beginning, we were able to manage additional requests with a clear and easy decision-making process. Recommendations were also provided around consistency of Te Reo use throughout the website.

Result:

The website was launched in unison with the release of the 120-page report, post Te Niwha's first summit. The website is a clear and easy to navigate portal making available infectious disease research through a transparent method of communication.

The report was originally requested as a 16-page executive summary, to be completed within one week in time for their major pandemic summit. However, upon seeing the designed summary report, Te Niwha requested Eden to then design the 120-page full report also within the same tight deadline. Both reports were delivered to the client on time.

Final deliverables included:

  • Revision of logo elements for use across all communication types.
  • Brand guidelines defining use around tohu for clear internal and external brand communication.
  • One page landing website established for initial web presence and promotion of events.
  • Brand consistent event and other promotional collateral items such as business card, pull up banners and PowerPoint templates etc.
  • Full website scoped, designed, and developed as a portal for sharing and producing infectious disease research for Aotearoa www.teniwha.com

Te Niwha have been in a rewarding and trusted relationship with Eden Design [...]. Following the recent pandemic, we are acutely aware within our mandate of infectious diseases research the significance of communication tools such as websites, letterheads and signs. Our requirements for our online presence via our website and newsletter were unique in what we wanted to portray and the level of engagement across not just researchers, research institutions and health organisations – but our aesthetics and information need to reach and resonate with communities. Together with [Eden Design], Te Niwha designed a brand that truly gives effect to our strategic direction and our values and principles. To begin our relationship, [Eden Design] was trusted to breath life into our Kawenata (Charter) by illuminating and paying communicative significance to our Vision and Mission, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our Values and Principles. The outcome is a document that is enduring. Our full website (and our temporary landing page) captures the essence across our research priorities and even its design capture each priority area, our team, our strategic direction and news very well. To support our (small) team to independently be able to proactively update our website – Hannah and the team from Eden Design provided Te Niwha will sharp training. We are well equipped to manage our communication tools – with maybe the odd user error call back to Hannah. Naturally, based on the trusted relationship with Hannah and Eden Design we engaged again. The timeframe for this work was extremely tight to the extent that the cover photo was taken the day before. The result was an outstanding publication. Hannah supported our team with redesigning tables and complex schematics to be reader and print friendly, provided advice and truly delivered beyond our expectations – given the ask. With each engagement we have with [Eden Design], we become more and more grateful for [their] skills, talent, advice and care.
